“My weapon” – Nigerian star targets Kylian Mbappé’s speed record after leading Genk to Cercle Brugge win

KRC Genk’s Nigerian forward Yira Sor has his sights set on a remarkable goal: breaking Kylian Mbappé’s lightning-fast speed record, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old attacker believes he is close to reaching peak physical condition after undergoing surgery last season, and he is determined to surpass Mbappé’s 38 kilometers per hour mark.

Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, Sor shared an optimistic update on his recovery.

“I feel better and better now, I can also go all out in training. I am only a few percent off my best form,” he said.

Sor’s top speed last season was an impressive 37.1 kilometers per hour, just shy of Mbappé’s record.

When asked about the possibility of breaking the Paris Saint-Germain star’s speed milestone, Sor responded with a smile,

“(Laughs) It’s a nice challenge. But I’m especially happy that my explosiveness is coming back. It’s my weapon to disrupt the opponent’s defence. We also train to be able to use that as well as possible.”

Sor’s explosive pace was on full display during Genk’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Cercle Brugge in the Jupiler Pro League. He opened the scoring just minutes into the match after being set up by Jarne Steuckers.

Though Cercle Brugge equalized twice, Genk’s dominance ultimately secured the win, with Tolu Arokodare scoring the decisive goal in the 55th minute.

The victory saw Genk temporarily move to the top of the league, with Yira Sor and his teammates demonstrating impressive resilience and attacking flair.

As Sor continues to regain his full fitness, fans will be watching closely to see if the Nigerian wonderkid can fulfill his bold ambition of breaking Mbappé’s speed record.
