‘It’s Incredible’ – Chidera Ejuke reacts after setting new Sevilla record as a Nigerian

Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke has etched his name in Sevilla FC’s history books, becoming the first Nigerian player to score a goal for the Spanish club in an official match, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigeria international made a crucial strike that helped Sevilla secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Valladolid at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

The Nigerian forward, who joined Sevilla from CSKA Moscow following an impressive loan stint with Royale Antwerp, finally opened his La Liga goal account after six appearances under manager García Pimienta.

In the 85th minute, Ejuke capitalised on a defensive error from Valladolid, calmly slotting the ball into the net from close range to break the deadlock and secure Sevilla’s second league win of the season.

Reflecting on his historic achievement and the team’s performance, Ejuke expressed his delight.

“I feel very good and happy. It’s an important victory for the team. It’s incredible to score in front of the fans; it’s an incredible feeling, and it’s also incredible to win. I’m very happy,” he told Sevilla FC’s official media after the match.

Ejuke’s goal also marked a significant personal milestone, as he became the first Nigerian to score for Sevilla in their long-standing history.

Alongside compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho, who came on as a substitute during the match but struggled to make an impact, the duo are the first Nigerian footballers to don Sevilla’s iconic white and red shirt.

While Ejuke will aim to build on his impressive performance, Sevilla are set to face Athletic Bilbao in their next La Liga fixture. Iheanacho, meanwhile, will be hoping to open his own goal account for Valladolid as he settles into his new team.
