The Super Eagles camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, is brimming with anticipation as the team prepares for the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda, Soccernet.ng reports.
With 14 of the 23 invited players already in camp, the atmosphere is charged with focus and determination.
On Monday, the camp welcomed Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi, Amos Obasogie, and Stanley Nwabali, joining the initial seven players who had arrived earlier in the day.
Leading the early arrivals was Captain William Troost-Ekong, accompanied by Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and South Africa-based Olisa Ndah.
Tuesday saw further reinforcement with the arrivals of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Frank Onyeka, boosting the team’s strength and morale.
Interim Super Eagles manager, Austin Eguavoen, who arrived in Uyo on Monday evening, is set to oversee the team’s preparations.
Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles defender, steps in for his fourth tenure following the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) termination of German coach Bruno Labbadia’s contract over unresolved tax issues.
Reflecting on his return, Eguavoen is focused on guiding the Super Eagles through these pivotal qualifiers.
With more players expected to join the camp soon, Eguavoen, alongside his assistants Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, is poised to lead an intense preparation period aimed at securing Nigeria’s place in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
