Four Super Eagles players that have played for Galatasaray

As Victor Osimhen has moved to Galatasaray, Soccernet.ng lists some Nigerian players who have played there in the past

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to become a Galatasaray player for the next four months once the remaining minor details are sealed, Soccernet.ng reports.

The move comes as a contingency plan after his purported transfer to Chelsea fell through and he refused to join Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli.

However, he will be looking to stay sharp and active at his temporary home. Galatasaray has witnessed quite a few Nigerian players in the past thirty years. While some excelled, others failed to make a mark.

In this article, Soccernet.ng highlights the four Super Eagles players (retired and active), who have played for Galatasaray.

1. Dominic Iorfa

Retired Super Eagles striker Dominic Iorfa had a pretty nomadic career, and one of his stops was at Galatasaray, where he played in the 1991/92 Turkish Super Lig season. During his time at the club, he registered three goals in nine games

Iorfa spent just eight months at the club before leaving for English club Peterborough. He registered 21 caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

2. Valentine Ozornwafor

Valentine Ozornwafor made a giant leap in 2019 when he joined Galatasaray straight from Nigeria Premier Football League club Enyimba. He was one of the best players coming out of the league at the time, but he failed to impress in Turkey.

Immediately he arrived at the club, he was sent out on loan to Almeria for his first season, before joining Royal Charleroi in his second season. In the three years he was attached to Galatasaray, Ozornwafor made just one appearance for Galatasaray. The 25-year-old defender is currently without a club.

3. Oghenekaro Peter Etebo

Etebo joined Galatasaray in 2020 in a season-long loan transfer. The Super Eagles star had to move to the Turkish giants due to his inability to get playing time at Stoke City.

There, he was a consistent player for the club, making 29 appearances for them. However, he returned to Galatasaray at the end of his deal as they were not interested in signing him permanently.

The 28-year-old midfielder now plays for Genclerbirligi in the Turkish second division.

4. Henry Onyekuru

Onyekuru is still the most successful Super Eagles star that has played for Galatasaray. In fact, he enjoyed his best football at Galatasaray. He had three different loans at the club, and he quickly impressed and became a fan favourite.

At Galatasaray, he produced 22 goals and 12 assists in 71 appearances. He also won the Turkish Super Lig and the League Cup.
