Former Premier League champions eye January move for Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is currently at crossroads as Napoli will not accept him back and the transfer window in the top five leagues are closed

Former English Premier League champions Liverpool are plotting a move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in January, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen’s future has been in the balance in the past three months. The Nigeria international has attracted many suitors across Europe following his impressive performances for Napoli.

The 25-year-old was Napoli’s best performer in the past three seasons, causing top sides like Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Chelsea to show interest in acquiring his services.

However, the deal fell through, as the clubs were either unwilling to meet his wage demands or unwilling to meet Napoli’s demands.

Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli were also strongly interested in signing him, but he was not interested in leaving Europe.

Now, Osimhen is at a crossroads as Napoli and Antonio Conte have ruled out Osimhen from the squad. He could opt to remain at Napoli without playing or go on a short loan at a league where the transfer window is open—and those are leagues outside the top six.

There may be a ray of sunshine for the Super Eagles talisman as BBC Hausa reports that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Osimhen and could try to sign him in January.

It would be a big snatch for the Reds, as Napoli would accept a lesser fee than the €130 million they maintained for so long. However, Osimhen would have Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota to compete with for playing time.
