Former Golden Eaglets defender, Yahaya Lawali, once on the radar of top European clubs has completed a move to Czech First League side MFK Karvina, Soccernet.ng reports.
The spotlight was on the sensational Nigerian right back at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament where his impressive performance earned him the man of the match.
During and after the tournament, his impressive performance reportedly piqued the interest of Barcelona who were ready to lock horns for his signature with Olympique Lyon, and Lens.
Despite attracting interest from major teams earlier in his career, the young Nigerian talent has opted for a fresh start in the Czech Republic, where he hopes to further develop his game.
The now-18-year-old defender has penned a four-year deal with the Czech Republic outfit with the aim of making a positive start in his European career.
Sevilla FC, along with Belgian sides Anderlecht and Gent, were among the clubs keen on securing the signature of Mahanaim FC’s rising star, Lawali.
Lawali featured prominently in all 360 minutes of Nigeria’s campaign at the AFCON U17 tournament, playing a crucial role in their first equalizing goal against South Africa. His well-placed corner kick was deflected by a South African defender, leading to a goal by Charles Agada.
Throughout the tournament, Lawali showcased his versatility with relentless attacking and defensive runs, delivering precise crosses into the box, and making key interceptions. Despite his standout performances, Nigeria’s journey ended in the quarterfinals.
