Ademola Lookman has been in great form for both club and country, continuing to impress with standout performances for Nigeria and Serie A side Atalanta, Soccernet.ng reports.
For the Super Eagles, Lookman has netted eight goals, five of which were scored in 2023 during the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers, including his latest heroics in Nigeria’s recent clash against Benin Republic.
The former Everton winger will be eager to add to his tally when Nigeria takes on Rwanda in Kigali as part of their 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Lookman’s goal-scoring run has boosted Nigeria’s campaign, and he will be looking to hit the 10-goal mark in national colours.
In Nigeria’s opening match of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Cheetahs of Benin, Lookman opened the scoring in style. Weaving through the Beninese defence, he calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to give Nigeria an early lead at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Victor Osimhen then doubled the advantage with a stunning acrobatic strike, making it 2-0. Lookman, not done yet, rose high to meet Moses Simon’s pinpoint cross, adding his second goal of the match to seal a 3-0 victory for the 2013 AFCON champions.
Since making his debut for Nigeria in March 2022, Lookman has established himself as a key player for the Super Eagles.
His first goal came against São Tomé and Príncipe during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. So far, Lookman boasts an impressive tally of eight goals and four assists in 24 appearances for Nigeria.
As Nigeria prepares to face Rwanda in Kigali tomorrow, the Super Eagles will be aiming to secure all three points, with Lookman determined to extend his goal tally and help Nigeria continue their push for AFCON qualification.
