Super Eagles duo, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, have revealed they’ll give their all to get revenge against Benin Republic when both sides meet next month, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ndidi and Iwobi were in action when Nigeria played against Benin Republic last month in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Raphael Onyedika drew first blood at the Olympic Stadium in Ivory Coast before a brilliant second half saw Gernot Rohr’s men win the game by two goals to one.
Both sides have been drawn into the same AFCON 2025 Qualifiers group, and despite the familiarity between Nigeria and their former Coach, Rohr; Iwobi and Ndidi revealed they’d be more fired up to get a result after what happened last time out.
Speaking to the Super Eagles media officer, Ndidi acknowledged that Nigeria did not perform as expected in the World Cup qualifiers but expressed confidence in their ability to make up ground in the AFCON qualifiers.
“We know we haven’t done as well as we wanted in the World Cup qualifiers, but we’re ready to make things right in Uyo. They [Benin] had their win in Abidjan, but we’ll see what happens in Uyo. Don’t worry; we’re prepared,” the Leicester City midfielder said just before his side took on Fulham at the Craven Cottage.
Alex Iwobi reiterated Ndidi’s sentiments and played up the importance of the Nigerian team proving their quality on the field.
“There’s still a lot to fight for; we have much to prove. We know the quality we have in this team, and we need to show it consistently for Nigeria, just like we do for our club sides. The fans expect a lot from us, and we expect a lot from ourselves. We’re ready to get the points we need to qualify,” the 28-year-old added.
Nigeria will play against Benin Republic on Saturday, 7th September, before travelling to face The Wasps of Rwanda three days later.
