Transfer deadline day: Napoli’s Osimhen, Cremonese’s Okereke, and the top Nigerian stars in the spotlight

As the summer transfer window comes to a close on Friday, clubs across Europe are racing against time to finalise their squads for the season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Premier League teams have already splashed out over £1.7 billion, although this is £600 million less than the spending spree in 2023.

Here’s everything you need to know about the final day of the transfer window.

Closing Times Across Leagues

The Premier League, English Football League, and Scottish leagues will see their windows close at 23:00 BST on Friday.

Elsewhere in Europe, Bundesliga’s window shuts at 19:00, while Ligue 1’s ends at 22:00. For Serie A and La Liga, the deadline also stands at 23:00 BST.

Other key markets such as Brazil, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia have until September 2 to wrap up their deals, with Turkey having a later deadline of September 13.

The Women’s Super League transfer window also remains open until September 13.

Potential High-Profile Moves

Victor Osimhen’s future is one of the most anticipated decisions of the day.

The Napoli striker has been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ahli reportedly preparing a multimillion-euro offer.

European giants like Chelsea, PSG, and Arsenal may still make a last-minute bid for the Super Eagles star.

Ademola Lookman’s situation at Atalanta has also garnered attention. Initially on the brink of an exit, the forward has rejoined first-team training.

However, PSG’s interest could trigger a late move for the former Everton and Leicester City man.

Paul Onuachu faces uncertainty at Southampton. Despite his impressive loan spell at Trabzonspor last season, the striker has not featured for the Saints this term.

A return to Turkey is possible, though negotiations are ongoing.

Frank Onyeka, who shone for Nigeria at AFCON 2023, has attracted interest from Valencia, Girona, and CSKA Moscow.

Brentford are reportedly open to letting the 26-year-old midfielder leave.

In Belgium, Jordan Torunarigha’s solid performances for Gent have put him on Borussia Monchengladbach’s radar, potentially setting up a return to the Bundesliga.

Finally, Real Sociedad might part ways with Umar Sadiq after a disappointing spell, and David Okereke could leave Cremonese in search of top-flight football, with Empoli and Cagliari among the interested parties.
