Nottingham Forest plotting new transfer that could displace Taiwo Awoniyi

Taiwo Awoniyi’s place at Nottingham Forest is under threat, as the English Premier League club are in serious talks with Feyenoord for the signing of Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Tricky Trees are looking to add some quality to their squad this summer after escaping relegation by the skin of their teeth last season.

They signed Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin two seasons ago, with the hope that he would e the bright spark in their attack. However, the deal has not gone as they would have liked.

The 27-year-old striker has been constantly battling with injuries since he joined the club. Awoniyi has contributed 17 goals and four assists in just 54 appearances. But in the past two years, he has missed 35 games for club and country.

Due to his constant injuries, Chris Wood has displaced him in the Tricky Trees’ lineup. However, it could even get worse for Awoniyi. This is as Nottingham Forest are currently in talks with Feyenoord over the signing for Gimenez.

The Mexican striker has been a consistent goal poacher for Feyenoord in the past two seasons, racking up 53 goals and 13 assists in 89 appearances.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Awoniyi Nottingham Forest has already sent in a bid of €25 million, but Feyenoord rejected it.

Transfermarkt currently value the Mexican at €40 million, so Feyenoord could demand up to €50 million before they sell.

If the deal goes through, Gimenez would likely become the first-choice striker, while Awoniyi will fall further below the pecking order.
