Super Eagles and Sevilla striker, Kelechi Promise Iheanacho, has penned an emotional farewell message to fans and staff of his former club, Leicester City, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 27-year-old joined the Foxes in the summer of 2017 from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, and it didn’t take long before Senior man became a cult hero.
Outside the pitch, his personality and charisma resonated with several of his teammates, with prime examples in Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire, who spoke the Nigerian pidgin English.
On the pitch, Iheanacho was instrumental in Leicester City’s FA Cup triumph in 2021, becoming the first-ever player in English football to score on every day of the week in a single season.
After seven years, Iheanacho exited the King Power Stadium as a free agent, opting to move to Spain to join La Liga powerhouse, Sevilla on a two-year deal the option to extend for another year.
Yesterday, the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner took to his social media page to thank Leicester City fans, staff and his teammates for making the club a home for him in the past seven years.
“Thank you for the 7 years we shared, I’ll forever cherish our 2021 FA Cup win. Thanks to the owners who brought me to the club, all of my teammates in those years and the amazing Foxes fans. All the best for the new season,” the post read.
In his time at Leicester, Iheanacho won the FA Community Shield, the FA Cup, and the EFL Championship title. He also scored 61 goals and provided 34 assists in 232 goals for the Foxes.
