Former Nigeria U-17 left-back joins Austrian side LASK

Former Nigeria U-17 left back, Emmanuel Michael has joined one-time Austria Champions, LASK, on a season-long loan, Soccernet.ng reports.

He joins the Austrian Champions from the SimoIben Football Academy for a year, with the option to make the deal permanent next summer. Personal terms had been agreed for a while, but the club had to wait till the defender turned 18 so he could sign a professional contract.

Upon signing for LASK, he’ll join their Amateur team to further his development with the hopes of featuring in the senior team as time goes on.

“New power for the external defence of our LASK amateurs in Upper Austria. 18-year-old Emmanuel Michael from Nigeria moves from Simibian Football Club FC to LASK. Emmanuel has already four missions for Nigeria’s U17 national team. Welcome to Linz, Emmanuel,” the club announced on their official website.

Emmanuel Michael came into the limelight at the 2022 U-17 AFCON qualifiers in Ghana, where he won several Man of the Match awards. He’s featured for the the Golden Eaglets on four occasions, providing one assist, and catching the eye of many with his forward marauding runs, and set-piece abilities.

Like Brentford’s Benjamin Frank, Emmanuel Michael is another export of the Simoiben Academy situated in Kaduna, Nigeria, and the transfer is a testament to the work being put into place in the academy owned by Nantes and Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon.
