Etebo continues comeback with impressive display in Turkey as Okoye’s Udinese condemn Dele-Bashiru to first Serie A defeat

Oghenekaro Etebo showed glimpses of his best form as he featured for Gençlerbirliği in their goalless draw at Iğdır FK on Saturday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

After going the entire 2023/24 season without playing a competitive match following the expiration of his loan deal at Greek club Aris, Etebo joined Gençlerbirliği on a free transfer this summer.

The Nigerian midfielder’s first league game for Gençlerbirliği was a 2-1 defeat at Kocaelispor but the club improved in their second match to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Boluspor.

And against Iğdır FK, Etebo was one of Gençlerbirliği’s better players as he completed 91% of his passes, made three tackles, won 100% of his ground duels, and lost possession only thrice.

The 28-year-old Super Eagles star will look to help Gençlerbirliği secure their first maximum points when they next face Esenler Erokspor away from home.

Okoye, Dele-Bashiru, and Chukwueze feature in Serie A

Straight to Italy where Maduka Okoye was on the winning side as Udinese claimed a 2-1 win over Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s Lazio.

Dele-Bashiru was in the encounter for an hour as Lazio fired 18 shots at Okoye’s goal but the Super Eagles goalkeeper kept his sheet clean until he was beaten deep in stoppage time by Gustav Isaksen.

However, Udinese had done enough to secure their first Serie A win of the season, maintaining their impressive run of being undefeated in their last seven games in the Serie A. The club’s last longer unbeaten streak was from 20th August 2022 to 16th October 2022, a run of 9 games.

Elsewhere, it was another disappointing day for Samuel Chukwueze and AC Milan after they were humbled 2-1 at Parma.

Chukwueze was an 86th-minute sub as he replaced Christian Pulisic who scored Milan’s only goal of the encounter.

Milan have now failed to win in their last 4 games in the Serie A.

At the Stadio Marco Druso in Bolzano, Simy Nwankwo assisted one of Salernitana’s goals but it was not enough to see them avoid falling to a 2-1 defeat at Südtirol.

The day did not also end well for Ebenezer Akinsanmiro and Sampdoria as they suffered a 1-0 loss against Reggiana in their first Serie B home game of the season.
