Ajax make big move that could reduce Chuba Akpom’s game time drastically

Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax are set to complete the signing of former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst, a move that could affect Chuba Akpom’s playing time drastically, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ajax have been seriously searching for a striker to bolster their attack this season, and Dutch striker Weghorst has topped their list.

Meanwhile, Nigerian striker Akpom’s place on the team has been heavily scrutinized as he has nor exactly made a big impact since he joined the club last season.

Coach Francesco Farioli has given the former Arsenal man a lot of minutes this season, but he his game time may reduce soon.

This is as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Ajax have made headway in their attempts to sign Weghorst from Burnley and will complete transfer in a few hours.

Once the transfer is sealed, Weghorst is expected to become the first-choice striker at Ajax, taking over Akpom’s place.

However, Akpom is quite versatile and Farioli could tweak his setup to accommodate the 28-year-old. In his last season, he played behind the striker. So he can still play that position at Ajax.

Still, he will have stiff competition from Dutch star Steven Bergwijn, who can also function in that position.
