“What is happening? – Ex-Roma star surprised PSG have ignored Victor Osimhen as Nigeria striker returns to Napoli

Former AS Roma midfielder Stefano Impallomeni has revealed his astonishment at the lack of transfer activity around Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen appeared to have played his final match for Napoli at the end of the 2023/24 season and looked set for a big-money dream move to the Premier League.

Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are long-time admirers of the for Lille ace, while PSG reportedly tabled a €100 million offer for him last summer.

However, several days into the summer transfer window, no European club has made any concrete move to snap up the Napoli striker.

It is a situation that has left former Parma ace Stefano Impallomeni bewildered as the 56-year-old expected an in-demand forward to have long departed Naples by now.

“The only thing that is not clear to me is why a club like PSG has not already closed the discussion,” Impallomeni said, as per Tutto Napoli.

“What is happening? I am missing some pieces in this story because it was said that he was in great demand… If everything is not defined within two weeks, for me he can stay in Naples.”

With nothing forthcoming on the transfer front, Osimhen has returned to Naples after his season-ending vacation.

The 25-year-old is expected to have his medicals after which he would join Antonio Conte’s squad in preseason training.

The Nigeria international is set to remain in Naples should no club meet Napoli’s financial demands.

However, former Milan goalkeeper Simone Braglia believes it is a bad idea for Napoli to keep hold of Osimhen after making it public that they intend to move him on this summer.

“It is counterproductive to keep someone you had announced as leaving,” Braglia pointed out. “It is better that they find a compromise, perhaps taking less (money) than the clause but letting him leave.”

Osimhen scored 17 goals and added four assists in all competitions for Napoli last season despite spending a chunk of his time representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
