Transfer: Nigeria-eligible English midfielder joins three-time Scottish Cup winners

Nigeria-eligible English midfielder, Dennis Abiodun Adeniran, has signed for three-time Scottish Cup winners, St. Mirren, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 25-year-old has spent the last two years in Portugal and Israel but was never really able to nail down a starting berth, but the prospect of playing European football played a key role in his decision to sign for St.Mirren.

The SPFL side announced on their club’s official website that the English man had signed a one-year deal with the option to extend for another year depending on the number of games he plays.

“I’m over the moon to get the deal done. The attraction of European football and the way the gaffer wants to play, his aspirations for the season, perfectly fit what I need right now in my career. I spoke to Jaden [Brown]. He had nothing but good things to say about the club and I went to school with Toyosi [Olusanya] as well so I know them, but all the lads have been brilliant. I’m a hard-working player. I like to have the ball at my feet, I’m dynamic and I like to chip in with a goal or two,” the former Everton man said after he signed for the club

Adeniran was unveiled at St. Mirren Park.

Capped by England from the U-17 to the U-19 level, Dennis began his career at Fulham and made his professional debut for the Cottagers in a league cup tie against Leyton Orient in 2016.

He was born to Nigerian parents in Southwark, England, and is eligible to play for the Super Eagles should the opportunity surface.

Adeniran joined Everton in 2017, making 56 appearances for their U21 side before heading out on loan to Wycombe Wanderers during the 2020/2021 season. Following the expiry of his contract at Everton, Dennis joined Sheffield Wednesday, where he would score seven goals in 51 appearances over two seasons.

He had short spells with Portuguese Primeira Liga side, Portimonense before signing for Israeli side Hapoel Petah Tikva in January.

St. Mirren finished 5th in the SPFL last season, meaning they’ll be playing in the Europa Conference League qualifiers in the coming season.
