Nigeria-eligible Italian defender, Memeh Caleb Okoli, has agreed to personal terms with 2021 FA Cup winners, Leicester City ahead of a move this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 22-year-old centre-back has spent the last two seasons away from Bergamo, going on loans to Cremose and Frosinone and is set to move abroad in search of playing time and a more stable environment as he won’t have to travel on loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Okoli has reached an agreement over personal terms with The Foxes and the deal is set to be completed in the coming days. Steve Cooper’s team will pay around €15m for their first signing of the summer, after parting ways with Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
King Power Stadium will be housing Premier League Football for the first time in over a year next season after they won the EFL Championships, gaining promotion with Ipswich Town and Southampton, and are keen to avoid a drop from the top flight.
Caleb Okoli was born in Italy to parents of Yoruba and Igbo descent but has revealed he would prefer to play for Italy in the future as earlier reported by Soccernet.ng.
He has played for the Italian youth teams at the national level, making his debut with the U-21 team on 7th September 2021, playing as a starter in the qualifying match won 1–0 against Montenegro. He also played for the U-19 side before that.
