Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has traveled with his Real Sociedad teammates to their pre-season camp in Japan despite talks linking him with an exit, Soccernet.ng reports.
Umar’s future has been in doubt since the end of last season because of his lack of game time at Real Sociedad. The Nigerian striker arrived at the club two years ago, and there were high expectations of him because of his previous exploits with Almeria.
However, injuries dealt him a big blow in his first season, as he missed most of Real Sociedad’s games due to a cruciate ligament injury.
Then last season when he returned, he struggled to get enough game time, especially at the tail end of the season. Because of his struggles, there have been talks that the former Almeria man will leave Real Sociedad this summer.
Getafe has been touted as a potential destination for Umar, but talks have been quite slow because Real Sociedad also want to sign Borja Mayoral from them. Meanwhile recent reports from Spain indicate that the 27-year-old striker does not want to move to Getafe.
Nonetheless, even with his future in the balance, Umar has traveled with the club to Japan for pre-season. There, Real Sociedad will take on Japanese side Gamba Osaka. Then they will play Osasuna, Rennes, and Union Berlin afterwards.
