Paris 2024: Randy Waldrum reveals big change the Super Falcons have to make ahead of Spain game

Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has stated that the team will work on their finishing before they meet Spain in their second game of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria will play Spain in their second game of the Paris Olympics on Sunday. Both teams head into the game with different fortunes- while the Super Falcons lost their first game of the tournament against Brazil by a lone goal on thursday, La Roja claimed a 2-1 win over Japan in their first game.

Despite losing, the Super Falcons were quite decent in their first game. They were not outplayed our outclassed, it was just a momentary loss of focus that cost them. Nigeria could have even scored, but they missed the few good chances they had.

However, ahead of the second game against Spain, coach Waldrum is keen on seeing an improvement. He stated that Nigeria’s problem against Brazil was their profligacy in front of goal.

The American tactician also noted that Nigeria would see less of the ball against Spain, and they would have to take the few chances they get.

“Our ability to be more clinical with our chances is going to be vital. We have to do a better job [of that] because you’re not going to get 10-12 shots on these teams,” Waldrum said, per ESPN.

“You’re going to get two or three chances, decent chances probably in the day, and you’ve got to be good enough to put one in and make sure defensively to keep them from putting goals.”

If Nigeria lose against Spain, it would almost signal the end of their Olympics campaign. However, a draw or a win would put them in a good position heading into their final game against Japan.
