“Our culture is truly beautiful” – Super Falcons star envisions first Olympics on African soil

Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has shared her vision of an African country hosting the Summer Olympics, a milestone that has yet to be achieved, Soccernet.ng reports.

Although no African nation has hosted the Summer Olympics, except Senegal which has made history by hosting the 2022 Youth Olympic Games.

The five-time African Female Footballer of the Year, reflected on Africa’s rich cultural heritage and its potential to offer a spectacular Olympic experience.

“I would love to see the Olympic Games happen on African soil someday. the opening ceremony will be brutal. Our culture is truly beautiful.” On X (formerly Twitter), she expressed her hope.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has shown interest in bringing the Games to Africa as part of its efforts to enhance global reach and inclusivity.

This commitment was stressed when the IOC awarded the 2022 Youth Olympic Games to Dakar, Senegal, marking the first time the Games will be hosted on the continent.

IOC President Thomas Bach stated, “It is time for Africa… Africa is the home of many successful and prominent Olympic athletes. Africa is a continent of youth. That is why we want to take the Youth Olympic Games 2022 to Africa and to Senegal. They have offered a project based on a strong vision for youth and sport. There are many opportunities, and we will endeavour to deliver together, as part of a strong partnership, visionary, responsible, and inspiring Youth Games.”

While the IOC has not yet issued a formal statement about awarding the Summer Olympics to Africa, the possibility remains a cherished aspiration for many, including Oshoala. For her and many others, hosting the Olympics in Africa would be a momentous and eagerly anticipated achievement.
