“Mourinho is scary”-Super Eagles defender Osayi-Samuel opens up on life with former Chelsea coach

Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has revealed that working with Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce has helped improve his self-confidence, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osayi-Samuel joined Fenerbahce in 2021, and he has grown to become an important member of the team. Since he arrived at the club, he has made 140 appearances, with seven goals and 13 assists.

At Fenerbahce, before this season, he worked with seven coaches, including Emre Belözoğlu, Erol Bulut, Vítor Pereira, İsmail Kartal, Zeki Murat Göle, João de Deus, and Jorge Jesus.

However, the club employed former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho this summer. In terms of stature, the Portuguese coach is the most experienced and successful tactician that Fenerbahce have ever employed.

For some of the players, Mourinho is the biggest coach that they have worked with. And Super Eagles star Osayi-Samuel is one of those.

The 26-year-old fullback has never played under a coach like Mourinho, and he has revealed that working with the former Chelsea boss has affected him positively.

“Mourinho is scary but also very nice. It is a great honor to work with him,” Osayi-Samuel said, per Fanatik.

“I want to learn the history of the players. He instills self-confidence in the player. I think I will learn a lot while working with him this year.

Osayi-Samuel seems to already have a good relationship with Mourinho, as he got 69 minutes of action in Fenerbahce’s first competitive game of the season against Lugano last week. His ruggedness and commitment are attributes that Mourinho likes and if Osayi-Samuel can deliver that consistently, he will enjoy a lot a minutes next season.
