“It is war” – Super Eagles new boy pumped for 100th Genk game ahead of Anderlecht clash

Super Eagles and Genk forward, Toluwalase Emmanuel Arokodare, is set to go to war against Anderlecht ahead of his 100th game for his side, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old joined the Smurfs from French side, Amiens SC, in the winter transfer window of the 2022/2023 season, and after a difficult start, Arokodare is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

The lanky forward has scored 20 games and provided five assists in 36 games for Genk this campaign across all competitions and is primed to add another in his 100th game for Thorsten Fink’s side tomorrow.

Arokodare is currently being fueled by the ecstasy from getting a call-up to the Nigerian National team. Ahead of his 100th Genk game, he’s delighted he didn’t ditch the Belgian side when the chance came during the summer transfer window.

“Who would have thought? When I signed here, I had hoped to reach 100. It wasn’t always easy, either. There was an opportunity for departure this season, but I am very happy that I stayed and can play under this coach. He has made me much better,” the former FC Koln forward said in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws.

Arokodare nearly joined Anderlecht from Amiens 27 months ago, but in a fascinating turn of events, he’ll play his 100th game against the Besnik Hasi’s side.

“We don’t focus on the past, but on our football. It is a big match for both clubs. It is the playoffs. These are the games you want to play.

“We are a resilient team, you saw that last week against Gent. We want to beat Anderlecht with the same mentality as the whole season. There is certainly no underestimation. We don’t underestimate or overestimate anyone. We start from our own strength and pretend it is war,” the Super Eagles striker concluded.

In 99 games for Genk, Arokodare has scored 37 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions. 20 of those goals have been scored this season, showing the improvement of the Nigerian forward.
