FIFA Rankings: Super Eagles drop one spot as Spain breaks into top three after Euro 2024 success

The Super Eagles have not played since June, and that has affected them

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have fallen one position to 39th on the latest FIFA rankings, Soccernet.ng reports.

The last time Nigeria were in action was in June, during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The three-time African champions drew against South Africa and lost to Benin for just the first time in their history. That result affected their placement on the rankings adversely, as they fell eight places from 30th to 38th.

Nigeria were not in action in July, but teams in Europe and South America were in action, as the Copa America and Euro Championships took place.

Argentina emerged as champions of the Copa America while Spain were champions of the Euros. The result showed, as the Abiceleste maintained their place at the peak of the rankings. Spain’s victory at the Euros also saw them move five places up to third in the World.

Nigeria, who were not in action dropped down to 39th. Other African teams also dropped because of their lack of action. Morocco dropped two spots to 14th, Senegal dropped one spot to 19th, and Ivory Coast dropped one spot to 38th.

The top ten teams in the world are Argentina, France, Spain, England, Brazil, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Portugal. Meanwhile, the top ten teams in Africa are Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, and South Africa.
