Euro 2024: Ex-Super Eagles coach supports Portugal in R16 win over Slovenia

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro was spotted at Deutsche Bank Park as Portugal defeated Slovenia in their Round-of-16 clash, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Portuguese national team aimed to bounce back from a heavy 2-0 defeat to Georgia at the 2024 Euro tournament, despite advancing from the group stage as table toppers.

Peseiro, who led the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, shared an image of himself showing support during the last-16 clash.

In the picture, the former head coach of Venezuela’s national team was seen with his wife, taking pictures with the national flag to show support for his country.

The Portuguese tactician’s support nearly ended in disappointment when the match was held to a draw in the first 90 minutes, with efforts from Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and others proving futile in scoring a goal.

In the 103rd minute, Portugal had a chance to take the lead when Vanja Drkusic fouled a Portuguese player, but the resulting penalty by the former Real Madrid player was saved by Jan Oblak.

Ultimately, Portugal won in a penalty shootout, with the ex-Manchester United forward, Bruno Fernandes, and Bernardo Silva securing a 3-0 victory and a ticket to the next round.
