Desire Oparanozie predicts Super Falcons’ Olympic Group C fate

The Super Falcons of Nigeria lost their first 2024 Summer Olympics game to Brazil with a goal from Gabi Nunes separating the two sides

Former Super Falcons forward Desire Oparanozie has shared her predictions for the Nigerian team’s performance in the ongoing 2024 Summer Olympics, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria finds itself in a challenging Group C, often referred to as the “group of death,” alongside formidable teams like Brazil, Spain, and Japan, all of whom have a strong history in women’s football.

Despite Nigeria’s opening loss to Brazil, the former Wolfsburg player remains optimistic about Randy Waldrum’s squad advancing beyond the group stage.

Speaking on 54footballX, Oparanozie forecasted that Brazil would be eliminated, with Spain and Japan taking the top two spots, and Nigeria securing third place.

“Yes, we will come out,” she affirmed when asked if Nigeria would progress from the group stage.

She elaborated: “It’s between Spain and Japan for the top spots, and Nigeria will pick the third place. Brazil is going home. We will lose one, draw one, and win one.”

The 11-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions will next face the current FIFA Women’s World Cup champions, Spain, on Sunday. This match is crucial for Nigeria to recover from their initial defeat.

Following the match against Spain, the Super Falcons will conclude their group stage campaign against Japan, a game that could determine their fate in the tournament.
