Former Super Eagles and Enyimba International coach, Finidi George is set to become the head coach of NPFL side, Rivers United, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 53-year-old manager was in charge of the Super Eagles during the March International break and was appointed as the official coach of the Nigerian National team in May, but a defeat to Benin Republic and a draw against South Africa didn’t do his credibility a lot of good.
Following rumours that the NFF might hire a technical adviser and that Finidi would be demoted, the former Ajax right-winger turned in his resignation letter, which led to even more drama as Victor Osimhen lashed out on Instagram about alleged comments made by the coach.
However, that has not deterred interest in the former Enyimba International coach, as he is set to take charge of Rivers United barely a month after relinquishing his role as the manager of the Super Eagles.
Rivers United ended the NPFL 2023/2024 season in 8th position, 17 points behind league Champions – Enugu Rangers, and hope Finidi’s appointment will take them back to the top of Nigerian football.
Finidi won the NPFL with Enyimba International in the 2022/2023 season and spent almost three years at the club before taking on a full-time role with the Super Eagles.
