Transfer: Wilfred Ndidi delays Steve Cooper’s plan for a new midfielder

New Leicester City head coach, Steve Cooper, is waiting on Wilfred Ndidi’s response to a new contract before straying into the transfer window for new recruits, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Welsh coach was appointed as the Foxes manager after Chelsea nicked Enzo Maresca from their hands after the Italian led them to the English Premier League.

Under Maresca, Kelechi Iheanacho struggled for playing time, while Wilfred Ndidi enjoyed his best goal-scoring season with the 2016 English Premier League Champions.

Both Super Eagles players were offered new contracts, but Iheanacho rejected the deal, stating he’ll be moving on from the King Power Stadium after seven years at the club. Ndidi, on the other hand, is considering his options as he wants to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Everton, Trabzonspor, Olympique De Marseille and Galatasaray have been linked and are said to have made offers to the player who will become a free agent on the 1st of July.

As per Filbert Way, Steve Cooper will have to wait until early next week to find out whether Wilfred Ndidi is staying.  Leicester are monitoring the transfer market for new recruits. Even if Wilfred Ndidi is to stay, the Foxes need new midfielders to fill the void left by Yunus Akgun, Marc Albrighton and Dennis Praet.

However, the 2021 FA Cup winners want to be sure of Ndidi’s decision to streamline their targets ahead of next season, as they plan to stay up and avoid relegation to the EFL Championships.

Wilfred Ndidi featured twice for the Super Eagles during the international break over the course of the month, as Nigeria drew to South Africa and lost to Benin Republic.
