Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been released from Leicester City following the expiration of his contract, but Wilfred Ndidi’s future still hangs in the balance, Soccernet.ng reports.
Iheanacho and Ndidi have been at Leicester for the last seven years, and both of them have been important for the club since then. They were both instrumental in Leicester City’s FA Cup triumph in 2021.
However, Iheanacho has fallen off the pecking order at the club in the last two years. He did not get enough game time two seasons ago, and it got worse last season, as the Super Eagles star made just 23 appearance and had five goals to his name.
Ndidi, on the other hand, was quite instrumental to Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League last season, recording four goals and five assists in 32 games.
However, Iheanacho and Ndidi’s futures have been in the balance because their contracts were supposed to expire at the end of the season, but they did not renew. It was clear that Leicester City did not want Iheanacho anymore, but Ndidi has always been a mainstay.
On Saturday, Leicester revealed the players that they would be moving on, and Iheanacho’s name was on the list. But surprisingly, the club revealed that they were still in talks with Ndidi for a new deal.
It is possible that the Nigerian midfield general is holding out for a higher pay. Or he could just be looking to play for a big club, especially as he is closing in on the twilight of his career.
Both parties are yet to reach an agreement, but if the Foxes put enough money on the table, Ndidi will remain at the King Power.
