Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong had to spend millions on a chartered flight for the guests who attended the launch of his foundation in Uyo on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Troost-Ekong hosted an event in Uyo over the weekend to mark the launch of his foundation – The Troost-Ekong Foundation. There was a charity football game during the day, and it was followed up with a gala.
The event had celebrities like Odumodublvck, Sabinus, and Falz, while Super Eagles stars like Kelechi Iheanacho, Benjamin Tanimu, and Stanley Nwabali were also in attendance.
Unfortunately, some of his guests could not return to their base because of the Nigeria Labour Congress strike, which left most areas of the economy, including aviation, crippled.
However, in a kind gesture, the PAOK star paid for a chartered flight to help his guests return to their base. According to Scorenigeria, Troost-Ekong spent 17 million on the flight.
Troost-Ekong is currently in Uyo, but he did not make Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin. The former Watford man sustained an injury at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and had to undergo surgery in February. He recovered before the end of the season, but he would need some game time before returning to the Super Eagles fold.
