NPFL Round-up: Enyimba trash Rivers United, Shooting Stars put four past Abia warriors, Rangers match towards title in Lagos

Enugu Rangers are on course for a crowning moment in the NPFL as they're top of the league with five games till the end of the season.

The NPFL Matchday 34 delivered as the race for the 2023/2024 league title heats up. Soccernet.ng brings a detailed report of the action across the local Nigerian league.

Musa Usman’s 27th-minute strike was all Doma United needed to give Lobi Stars their fifth-straight loss.

Down south in Ikenne, Remo Stars defeated Kano Pillars, thanks to a Nduka Junior 99th-minute strike. Ahmed Akinyele had broken the deadlock for the Sky Blue Stars in the first half before Salisu Mustapha equalized for Kano Pillars. Akinyele’s goal put Daniel Ogunmodede’s men within two points of the first position.

Bendel Insurance won their third game in their past five against Katsina United. Chisom Okereke and Evans Ogbonda scored to move the Benin boys to the 7th position on the NPFL table.

Enyimba International were in hot form at home, as they trashed Rivers United 4-1. Andy Okpe opened the scoring for the visitors before Chijioke Mbaoma and Elijah Akanni put in doubles to put the two-time CAF Champions four goals up.

Magbisa Wisdom, Garando Tekana, and Bassey John put Bayelsa United three-up before Plateau United pulled two back later in the game.

Sunshine Stars secured a rare away win on the road against Gombe United. Promise Awosanmi and Lucky Nwafor got on the scoresheet to secure a 2-0 win for the Ondo faithful.

Dehinde Ibrahim opened the scoring for Kwara United before Bashiru Usman levelled the score for Niger Tornadoes.

Sporting Lagos and Enugu Rangers played out the only goalless draw of the NPFL this weekend. Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men are currently two points clear at the top of the NPFL table.

Shooting Stars ended the Sunday action by putting four past Abia Warriors. Akwa United will take on Heartland tomorrow by 4pm.
