Born in Berlin on the 7th of May, 2005, Onuaho has Nigerian roots and started his football career with Reinickendorfer Füchse Youth in 2018 before joining Hertha Berlin a year later.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Onuoha has also played as a striker and out wide. He has featured for the Germany U-19 team, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 19 games for Die Nationalmannschaft.
He also scored five goals and three assists in 15 games for the Leipzig youth team, despite missing the first three months of the season, recovering from a syndesmotic ligament tear.
Although atypical, the 19-year-old after his contract with Leipzig expired decided to join newly relegated side, F.C. Köln, and will immediately join third-tier German side, Sports Club Viel on loan for the next season.
“I chose FC because I felt a lot of trust in the discussions. I also have the opportunity to develop myself here. I have friends in Cologne who have been following FC for a long time and who have told me a lot about the club. I really want to be able to play in the RheinEnergieSTADION one day and will work hard to achieve this goal. To achieve this, it is a good step to play for SC Verl in the 3rd division in my first year of senior football,” the midfielder said in quotes revealed by the club’s official website.
Cologne have also signed 19-year-old Togolese striker, Mansour Ouro-Tagba from TSV 1860 München on a long-term contract.
