Leicester City and Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Promise Iheanacho, has revealed that the late arrival of some of his teammates has affected the team’s preparation for their upcoming clash against South Africa, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 27-year-old forward was one of the players who resumed camp earlier, featuring in William Troost-Ekong's foundation launch at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Frank Onyeka, Bright-Osayi Samuel and Paul Onuachu joined up with the team yesterday, while the trio of Iwobi, Lookman and Maduka Okoye are yet to join up with the team.
The former Manchester City striker revealed that the team have not been able to participate in some training sessions because of the lack of numbers in the team.
“Obviously, we are not yet complete and we are missing a few players, it’s just a little bit of an impact in the training sessions. We couldn't do some of the big sessions that we needed to do because we are not complete.It affects the training a little bit but we’ve got almost everybody today and we did a big session which is very, very important.” Iheanacho told TVC News.
The one-time FA Cup winner is looking forward to having the rest of his teammates so they can be prepared for their games against South Africa and Benin Republic.
“Hopefully everyone will be around tomorrow for us to get the full length of the pitch and training that we need. Overall, we have been working really hard and training for a few days now so I think the coaches are doing a great job. We are really fit and ready to go,” he added.
Nigeria will take on South Africa on Friday before facing Benin Republic in Ivory Coast next week Monday.
