The Super Eagles have been given a clean bill of health ahead of Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa, Soccernet.ng reports.
The three-time African champions host South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday in a highly anticipated clash.
Nigeria’s preparation has been hampered by an injury to star forward Victor Osimhen and captain William Troost-Ekong while Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella asked to be excused.
Still, Finidi has 23 of Nigeria’s best players with him in camp, including Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, and AC Milan ace Samuel Chukwueze.
Fresh injury fears resurfaced in camp after Chukwueze missed Wednesday’s evening training due to a suspected foot injury.
However, during his pre-match press conference, Finidi confirmed there were slight fitness issues but he maintains he has a fit squad ready to face South Africa.
“Chukwueze had a knock, Awaziem had a stomach problem, but all players are fit and ready to go,” Finidi said.
“We have trained well, the players understand the task. I trust my players and their quality. It’s a must-win game.
“I don’t have anything to prove. I am relaxed, it is football. I want to win, I understand the tasks. I am not scared, I played to the highest and we are going for a win tomorrow.”
Nigeria’s match against South Africa kicks off at 8 pm local time.
