A possible conflict looked to be brewing between Super Eagles stars, Victor Osimhen and John Ogu following their social interactions, Soccernet.ng reports.
The longtime friendship between Napoli striker Osimhen and Maccabi Jaffa midfielder Ogu appeared to have taken a hit after Osimhen’s recent dispute with former Super Eagles coach Finidi George.
John Ogu was upset after the striker criticized Finidi on Instagram Live.
Osimhen had spoken out against Finidi and critical Super Eagles fans who questioned his commitment after he missed games against South Africa and Benin in June due to injury.
Following this incident, Ogu gave an interview highlighting Osimhen’s history of disputes with teammates and coaches, including Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun and goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, to provide context for Osimhen’s clash with Finidi.
Osimhen did not publicly respond to Ogu’s comments but he initially seemed displeased with Ogu’s reaction.
Osimhen and Ogu recently attended a beach party and cruise organised by Nigerian socialite Obi Cubana Chief Priest.
Other Super Eagles players, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, Henry Onyekuru, Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika, and new Trabzonspor signing Anthony Nwakaeme, were also present.
Photos and videos from the event circulated online, revealing an interesting pattern.
Osimhen appeared to snub Ogu at the party as no one captured them together during the affair.
Boniface posted numerous images with Osimhen on Instagram and Twitter. Onyekuru also shared pictures with Osimhen, and Osimhen interacted well with Onyedika.
However, Ogu posted pictures with Onyekuru and Nwakaeme but none with Osimhen, indicating they kept their distance.
Boniface seemed to support Osimhen by not posting any interactions with Ogu, while Onyekuru appeared neutral, mingling with both Osimhen and Ogu at different times.
However, both Osimhen and Ogu have made efforts to show that there is no conflict between them.
Soccernet.ng gathered that Osimhen invited Ogu to his party ending any perception of a cold war between the two Super Eagles stars.
Ogu also took to his social media accounts to share a beautiful image of himself with Osimhen, adding a lovely caption:
“With African Best, Victor Osimhen”
And Osimhen wasted no time in responding:
“Blessings my bro” (alongside two love emojis)
Ogu has always been one of Osimhen’s biggest supporters.
He played a key role in the Super Eagles squad at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria won a bronze medal.
Osimhen, then an understudy to AFCON top scorer Odion Ighalo, was seen by Ogu as a future star, predicting in 2020 that Osimhen would break Nigerian transfer records and become one of the country’s greats like Rashidi Yekini.
Thankfully, their longtime friendship looks to be growing stronger.
Osimhen also remains on his way to being a Nigerian great as he is now the all-time third-highest goalscorer for the Super Eagles with 21 goals.
Only Yekini (37 goals) and the legendary Segun Odegbami (22) have scored more goals for Nigeria than the 25-year-old Napoli forward.
