Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has hailed Carlo Ancelotti’s impact on Real Madrid after the Italian tactician guided Los Blancos to a record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League title, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ancelotti secured his fifth Champions League honour as a manager after his Real Madrid powered past Borussia Dortmund in the final of the 2023/24 Champions League.
After a difficult first half in which Dortmund had enough chances to put the game to bed, Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr scored the decisive goals to hand Madrid a 2-0 win at Wembley.
Former Real Madrid assistant coach Peseiro spoke to Deportes Caracol Sábado about the significance of this title and the factors that led to Real Madrid’s success.
“Ancelotti has won five Champions Leagues, and the secret lies in the locker room,” Peseiro said.
“It’s not about having the best squad but how they manage it. The mystique and order in the team, along with a fantastic game plan, make the difference. Ancelotti builds teams to win; he has motivation, responsibility, and the qualities of a great coach.”
Peseiro emphasized the importance of a sustainable project with solid foundations.
“Teams don’t win just because they have great coaches or players. They win because they have a strong investment system and a structure that motivates and gives credibility,” he added.
Real Madrid have established themselves as the most successful club in history, consistently winning and maintaining a strong presence on the international stage.
Despite the departure of key players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria, and Karim Benzema in recent weeks, the club’s solid structure has ensured its continued success.
“Real Madrid has a culture of renewal. Important players leave, but the team continues to thrive. They’re always looking for top talents like Bellingham, Vinícius, and possibly Mbappé,” Peseiro noted.
He concluded by stressing that the team’s success comes from consistency and unity.
“The team has played with a thousand solutions. It’s not about individual talent but how the players work together. Vinícius, Bellingham, Rodrygo, Valverde—they all contribute to a cohesive unit. The team won, not just the individual stars,” Peseiro concluded.
Peseiro is presently without a job after leaving his role as head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles. The former Sporting Lisbon boss guided Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year.
