WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship: Burkina Faso hold Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets to stalemate

The Golden Eaglets won the last competition, but they did not start this on a strong note

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria were held to a goalless draw in their first game of the 2024 WAFU Zone B championship against Burkina Faso at the University Stadium in Ghana, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria’s latest set of youngsters file began their defense of the WAFU Zone B Championship with a game against Burkina Faso at the University Stadium in Ghana.

Because of the kind of talent that Nigeria always produces, the Golden Eaglets were expected to win the game. Nigeria bossed the play from the onset and the players showed good chemistry with other. However, they lacked technique in the final third and failed to make the right decisions.

Burkina Faso on the other hand, had limited chances. And the few they got were due to some mistakes from Nigeria’s backline.

The game got tougher for both sides in the second half, when it began to rain cat and dogs at the stadium. However, both teams failed to create clear-cut chances, especially as the conditions were poor.

The Golden Eaglets struck the bar late in the game after a defensive mix-up in Burkina Faso’s area. But that was the best they could get, as Manu Garba and his lads had to settle for a barren draw.

Nonetheless, they will be looking to get a win in their second game against Niger Republic.
