Former French Ligue 1 champions Lyon are set to lock horns with Everton and Juventus for the signing of Super Eagles midfield general Wilfred Ndidi, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ndidi had a great campaign with English Championship winners Leicester City last season. The Super Eagles star registered four goals and five assists in 32 league appearances.
Last season, he showed his versatility in midfield as he excelled when coach Enzo Maresca used him in more advanced positions instead of his traditional defensive midfield role.
However, with his deal at Leicester set to expire at the end of the campaign, Ndidi refused to pen an extension at the club. And at the end of May, he will officially become a free agent.
The 27-year-old midfielder has been linked with clubs like Everton, Juventus, and the Saudi Pro League. However, Ndidi now has new suitors.
According to Foot Mercato, Lyon have shown interest in signing the Super Eagles midfielder. The French giants are looking to add some quality player after their dismal campaign last season, when they finished sixth in the league.
Ndidi has spent the last seven years of his life in England, and it is unlikely that he would want to leave the country because his family is also there. Also, Lyon may not be able to match the kind of offer that a Premier League side like Everton can put on the table.
Meanwhile, a move to Saudi Arabia may not be ruled out, as Ndidi is slowly drifting to the twilight of his career and may be looking to make extra money.
