Super Falcons receive major boost for 2024 Olympics’ “group-of-death” as Chiamaka Nnadozie earns new award

Nnadozie already won the league's award for the best goalkeeper

Super Falcons star Chiamaka Nnadozie has won the France Football Players’ Association (UNFP) award for the best goalkeeper in the Women’s League, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nnadozie has been quite impressive for her club and country over the last one year. She made 19 appearances for Paris FC in the D1 Arkema, registering six clean sheets. She also averaged 2.8 saves per game and saved two of the four penalties she faced.

The 23-year-old was also key in Paris FC’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League, registering two saves in the penalty shootout against Arsenal.

Following her brilliance, she has been awarded the UNFP award for the best goalkeeper of the season.

The win will put Nnadozie in high spirits ahead of the 2024 Olympic games slated for June.

Super Falcons’ Olympic opponents

The Super Falcons have been pitched against Brazil, Japan, and Spain in Group C, in what has been touted as the group of death.

All three of Nigeria’s opponents have won the World Cup, but none of them have won the Olympics female football competition. The Super Falcons are the least-ranked team in the group, but after their performance at the last World Cup, where they reached the semi-final, there is hope that Randy Waldrum’s women will produce magic.

Randy Waldrum’s reaction to Falcons’ group-of-death

Waldrum is no stranger to tough groups. At the World Cup, Nigeria was drawn against Australia, Canada, and Republic of Ireland, but they emerged second despite their slim chances.

Ahead of the Olympic Games, the American tactician has urged the NFF to pull their weight behind the team so they will perform well.

“My plea is to help us to prepare properly; we need to camp in Europe, we need proper training, proper transportation, and we need to do things right,” Waldrum said.

“Every team at the Olympics is top, like the World Cup, we’re in the ‘Group of Death.”

The 2024 Olympic Games will begin on July 24 July and it will run until August 11 with Nnadozie playing a major role in the Super Falcons team with her exceptional skills.
