Samuel Chukwueze’s Nigerian record shines despite AC Milan’s Milan derby loss to Inter

Samuel Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal during the 2023 Summer transfer window

AC Milan’s aspirations for a 20th Italian Serie A title were dashed with a 2-1 defeat to rivals Inter Milan in a highly anticipated Milan derby, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

Despite the disappointment, Nigerian football has left an indelible mark on both clubs, with notable names like Joel Obi, Obafemi Martins, Taribo West, Taiye Taiwo, and Samuel Chukwueze having graced the field for Milan sides.

Chukwueze’s journey with the Rossoneri began in the summer of 2023 when he made the switch from Villarreal to join the Italian giants.

With 30 appearances under his belt, he outshines his Nigerian counterparts, including Taiye Taiwo (eight appearances), Taribo West (four appearances), and Aliyu Datti (three appearances).

While Chukwueze’s goal tally may not match his achievements in Spain, his recent resurgence has seen him netting three goals, surpassing West’s record of one.

In the latest Milan derby, Chukwueze’s impact was limited to 23 minutes on the pitch as Inter Milan emerged victorious, clinching their 20th Scudetto title with goals from Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram.

This leave Inter Milan clinching the Italian Serie A title with 86 points, 17 points ahead of AC Milan who sits second with 69 points.

On the opposing side of Milan, Obafemi Martins stands out with the highest number of appearances for Inter Milan, boasting an impressive 49 goals in 136 appearances for the club.
