Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie battles PSG, Lyon stars for Best Goalkeeper award in France

The Nigerian shot-stopper has been excellent between the posts for Paris FC and is recognised for her exploits

Paris FC goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the Best Goalkeeper of the Season award in the French Feminine Division 1, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nnadozie has been excellent for Paris FC this season, helping the club seal a top-four finish in the league and qualify for the Champion Play-off.

The Super Falcons star featured in 17 league games, keeping a clean sheet in six and conceding 20 goals to give real defensive solidity to Paris FC. The team has the third-best defensive record in the French elite division behind leaders Lyon and second-place PSG.

Interestingly, Nnadozie will battle Olympic Lyon’s goalie Christiane Endler and PSG shot-stopper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek for the prestigious award.

Endler conceded eight goals in 16 games for Lyon, while Kiedrzynek only featured in eight matches for PSG, shipping seven goals and keeping a clean sheet in one.

Strangely, Stade de Reims goalkeeper Kinga Szemik, who boasts the highest number of clean sheets in the division (9), did not make the shortlist.

Nnadozie, who was also nominated for the same prize last season, will fancy her chances, though, as she boasts an excellent 70.8 save percentage.

The Super Falcons number one also saved two of the three penalty kicks she faced in the league this season, having saved none of the seven she faced in previous years. No other keeper made as many saves from penalty.

The 22-year-old has come of age since winning the Bruno Martini Award for Goalkeeping Revelation of the Season in the French top flight three years ago.

Nnadozie was nominated for Player of the Month for March in the French Feminine Division 1.
