“He deserved that” – Thomas Frank heaps praise on Onyeka after scoring Premier League debut goal

Frank Onyeka played all of Nigeria's seven games at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Wilfred Ndidi's absence, helping the team to second place.

Brentford’s head coach, Thomas Frank, has heaped praise on Nigeria’s Frank Onyeka after the midfielder opened his goalscoring account for the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Bees were winless in nine games, with their last victory coming in February. Since then, they lost five games, and drew four, facing possible relegation threats, but the three points they got today has given them a bit of breathing space.

A deflected Mikel Daamsgard cross broke the deadlock for Brentford as they broke the deadlock against Sheffield United who are also without a win in eight games.

Frank Onyeka was sent on in the 90th minute of the game to help seal the win and keep things tight at the back, but instead, gave Thomas Frank’s team a breather with the second goal of the game at the Gtech Community Stadium.

A throw-in found Kevin Schade in Sheffield’s box, and the German flicked the ball to Onyeka, who wasted no time in squaring the ball home for his first-ever Premier League goal, drawing praise from his manager.

“I’m so happy for Frank, he deserved that. He came on and was a part of deciding the win, I’m so happy, It’s been a long time coming,” the Danish tactician told the club’s official website after Brentford’s win.

Brentford travel to Luton Town next week in what could prove to be a pivotal fixture for both teams, but Thomas wants to take it one step at a time.

“Luton is the next team-up, we need to focus on what we need to do. We’ll enjoy a good glass of red tonight, and then it’s back to work,” the 50-year-old added.

Following Brentford’s win over Sheffield United, they are now 14th on the English Premier League table, two points above Crystal Palace who have two games in hand.
