Tyrique George: England-born Nigeria-eligible teenager rated similar to Bukayo Saka joins Chelsea first team training

Nigeria-eligible England-born teenage prodigy, Tyrique Delali Yusuff George has been called up to the Chelsea first team despite just being 18 years old, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Cobham product has been called to the first team training by Mauricio Pochetinno alongside Kiano Dyer after impressive performances with the club’s U-18 side.

Who is Tyrique George?

Tyrique Goerge was born on 4th February 2006, in London, England, to parents of Nigerian descent. He joined the Chelsea youth setup in 2014 at the age of eight.

Since that time, he has moved through the Chelsea academy and has scored eleven goals and created another nine in just thirty-four games for the U-18 side.

Primarily a left winger, George has featured across several positions in his growing career. He can play as a striker and as an attacking midfielder.

He loves using his pace to run at fullbacks and create havoc for the opposition and takes responsibility when his team is struggling to create chances by unleashing shots from distance.

The 18-year-old’s name usually accompanies wonder goals wherever he’s mentioned. Since 2021, he has had eight goals nominated for the Goal of the Month award, and this season, he has been nominated for five months consecutively, dating back to October 2023.

The Bukayo-Saka lookalike frequently represented England at Under-16 level in the 2021/22 season and was a part of the Val de Marne winning squad for that age group. He was selected in the England Under-17s side that competed at the European Championship in the summer of 2023.

Standing at 1.71m tall, the winger was a big part of the Chelsea U-18 side in the 2022/23 season, featuring regularly under both Ed Brand and Hassan Sulaiman. He made 28 appearances across all competitions, 18 of them as starts before he was moved up to the U-18s at the start of 2023/24.

It remains to be seen if the talented youngster is open to switching his nationality to don the green and white colours of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
