Former Ajax star Finidi George is set to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their upcoming international friendly matches against the Black Stars of Ghana and Mali, Soccernet.ng reports.
Following the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract after leading the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the coaching role for the Super Eagles has been declared vacant by the Nigerian football body.
Earlier reports revealed that the NFF Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, is expected to temporarily fill the position until a new coach is appointed.
However, Soccernet.ng understands that Finidi George, who worked closely with Peseiro during his tenure as head coach, is reportedly expected to take charge of the team for the upcoming friendly matches.
Initially scheduled to face Argentina and El Salvador in the United States, the Super Eagles had to reschedule the matches due to visa issues.
Instead, they will now face Ghana in Marrakesh, Morocco on April 22nd, renewing a long-standing rivalry that is sure to ignite social media discussions between the two countries.
Following the Ghana match, Nigeria will take on Mali on April 26th. With their strong performance at the 2023 AFCON, the Super Eagles are expected to approach the game with confidence.
