Nathan Tella spurs Leverkusen victory despite Finidi’s benching decision

Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella was an unused sub during Super Eagles international friendly clash against Ghana and Mali

Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella played a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s victory against TSG Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The former Southampton forward showcased his impact by providing an assist to Patrik Schick, who secured a last-minute winner for Leverkusen at the Bay Arena.

The match saw Maximillian Beier opening the scoring for Hoffenheim in the first half, capitalizing on a pass from Wout Weghorst to slot the ball into the net from close range.

Trailing by a goal at halftime, Leverkusen’s coach Xabi Alonso made four changes, including bringing on Tella, to overturn the scoreline.

In the 88th minute, Robert Andrich equalized for Hoffenheim with a shot from inside the box, connecting with a headed pass from Jonathan Tah.

Despite not featuring in the recent international friendly against Ghana and Mali under Finidi George, Tella made a significant impact for Leverkusen, providing the crucial assist in injury time.

With the match hanging in the balance, Patrik Schick sealed the victory for Leverkusen with a close-range finish, courtesy of Tella’s fine pass.

Despite being benched in the international fixtures, the 24-year-old Tella has proven his worth, aiding Alonso’s side in their strong dominance in the German league.

Bayern Munich were defeated by Borussia Dortmund and Leverkusen now have a 13-point lead with seven matches to go.
