Emmanuel Dennis: Super Eagles star set for Watford record in Swansea City clash

The Hornets are looking to return to winning ways after losing each of their last two league games

Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis is on the verge of making history as Watford hosts Swansea City at the Vicarage Road on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Since swapping Istanbul Basaksehir for Watford following an unsuccessful loan spell in Turkey, Dennis has found a new lease of life back in England.

Dennis has scored two goals in seven appearances for Watford after making the starting eleven only twice.

The former Club Brugge forward netted his first goal in Watford’s 2-1 home loss to Leicester City, and his second came in another 2-1 defeat against Huddersfield, also at the Vicarage Road.

If he finds the net against Swansea, Dennis could become the second Watford player to score in three successive home league games this season, after Mileta Rajovic in November 2023.

Dennis’ goals could be crucial, though, as Watford have won only one of their last five league games.

However, having claimed a 1-0 away win in October this season, the Hornets could complete a league double over Swansea City for the first time since the 1982-83 top-flight campaign.

Watford have endured a largely unspectacular campaign this season, registering 11 wins, 11 draws, and 13 defeats in 36 Championship games to sit in 12th place on the 24-team table with 44 points.

The Golden Boys have been particularly mediocre in 2024, losing all three of their home league games this year. The only previous time they have started a calendar year outside the top flight with a longer such run was in 1972 in the second tier, losing each of their first seven home league games to begin the year.

Dennis linked up with Watford on loan in January 2024 from Nottingham Forest, for whom he has made 19 league appearances in total, scoring two goals and providing two assists, after joining the club in August 2022 from Watford.
