Back from injury! Victor Boniface returns to full training at Leverkusen in time for final season run-in

Boniface has been out injured since the turn of the year, but he has returned to full fitness

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has returned to action at Bayer Leverkusen following a three-month injury lay-off, Soccernet.ng reports.

Boniface had an outstanding start to life at Bayer Leverkusen following his $20.5 million transfer from Belgian club Royale Union SG. The 23-year-old striker registered 16 goals and eight assists in 23 games for Die Werkself.

His performances for the club earned him back-to-back Bundesliga Rookie of the Month awards. And he was eventually called up to the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Unfortunately, he sustained an adductor injury at the turn of the year and was ruled out because he had to undergo surgery.

Boniface underwent surgery in January, and he has regularly shared pictures of himself in the rehabilitation process.

Initially, the 23-year-old hitman was projected to be out of action until early April, but coach Xabi Alonso hinted at a possible earlier return date.

In a new development on Monday, Bayer Leverkusen shared pictures of Boniface at the club’s training ground with his other teammates, meaning that he had reached full fitness.

As it stands, Boniface will be available for selection for Bayer Leverkusen’s game against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga this Saturday.

His return gives Die Werkself a big boost in the final third. However, coach Xabi Alonso may want to slowly reintegrate him into the lineup.

Going into the last eight fixtures, Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to seal the title as quickly as possible. They are also in the quarter-finals of the Europa Cup, where they face West Ham.

Die Werkself are the only unbeaten team in Europe’s top five leagues, and Boniface will be looking to supply the goals that will keep it that way until the end of the campaign.
