Ahmed Musa scored a brace for Nigeria at the Volgograd Arena to help the Super Eagles defeat Iceland at Russia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, is now without a club after terminating his contract with Turkish Süper Lig side, Yapı Sivasspor after just seventeen months, Soccernet.ng reports.
Musa, 31, was part of Jose Peseiro’s team at the just concluded AFCON 2023 tournament in the Ivory Coast as the Nigerian team returned home with a silver medal, but he played none of the seven games in the competition.
The Nigerian team captain joined the one-time Turkish Cup winners after terminating his contract with another Turkish club, Fatih Karagümrük.
He put pen to paper with Sivasspor on a two-year deal in September 2022 and struggled for playing time in his first season.
He played twenty-four games with very few starts and scored no goals or recorded any assists, averaging twenty-four minutes of playing time in the games he played.
Things got worse for the former Leicester City man in his second season with the Yiğidolar Yigidos as he played just four games before the start of the AFCON 2023 tournament, scoring one goal.
During the tournament on the Ivory Coast, five senior players of the Turkish club mutually agreed to terminate their contracts, with the club, struggling to keep up with their wage bill.
According to a report released by Medyazar, the former Kano Pillars man has also terminated his contract as the club owes him six months’ wages, and despite issuing a notice to the club, the issue remained unresolved.
Soccernet.ng understands that several other players have also reportedly ended their contracts for similar reasons.
There are rumours of a potential return to Musa’s boyhood club, Kano Pillars, or a move to a Saudi club once the summer transfer window opens.
