Some Super Falcons stars were in action for their clubs, and while some got impressive results, others struggled
Super Falcons star Toni Payne got an assist for Sevilla Women in their 2-2 draw against Granada Women on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Falcons are gearing up for their Olympic qualifiers fixture against Cameroon later this month. But before that, some of the invited players were in action for their clubs.
One of Randy Waldrum’s trusted lieutenants, Payne was on the starting lineup for Sevilla in their game against Granada at the Ciudad Deportiva del Granada.
After two quick goals from Ornella Vignola and Pamela Gonzalez in the first five minutes to make it 1-1, Payne produced an assist for Martin-Prieto Gutierrez to make it 2-1 before the break.
Sevilla looked like they were set for a win, but Naima Garcia scored the equalizer at the death to ensure it ended 2-2. Payne played the entire duration of the game, but she could not help her side get all three points.
Meanwhile, in France, Regina Otu and Amanda Mbadi were in action for Saint Etienne as they defeated Reims, who had Tosin Demehin and Rofiat Imuran.
Charlene Melon scored first for Reims Women in the 32nd minute, but Mbadi scored the equalizer for Saint Etienne in the 40th minute.
Reims got the lead again in the 57th minute, thanks to a goal from Noemie Mouchon. However, Cindy Caputo equalized again for the home side.
Anaele le Moguedec scored the third for Reims in the 77th minute, but Demehin broke Reims’ fans’ hearts after she scored an own goal in the 85th minute. Then, in the 86th minute, Phoenetia Browne scored the clincher for Saint Etienne to ensure it ended 4-3.
