The Portuguese tactician guided Nigeria to a second-place finish at the continental championships this month, but he is still far from being a fan’s favourite
Former Barcelona winger Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed his readiness to become the head coach of the Super Eagles following the uncertainties surrounding the future of coach Jose Peseiro, Soccernet.ng reports.
Peseiro’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation expired immediately after the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
A clause in Peseiro’s contract reportedly stipulated that the NFF would consider extending the deal with the Portuguese coach should Nigeria reach the semifinals of the AFCON.
Peseiro fulfilled that obligation by guiding the Super Eagles to the final, where they narrowly lost 2-1 to host Cote d’Ivoire.
Still, there is no word yet from the NFF regarding the contract situation of Peseiro, who was on Tuesday bestowed with a national honour, member of the Order of the Niger, alongside his Super Eagles players.
However, Amuneke, who coached the Golden Eaglets to glory at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017, has revealed he is ready to serve Nigeria again.
“I am a Nigerian. All my life, I have served Nigeria as a player,” Amuneke said in an interview with News Central TV.
“If Nigerians now find me fit to add value to the team, of course, it is a welcome development.
“But for now, it is not necessary to talk about this issue.
“We have to support the team and other Nigerians; they are going through a lot of sadness.
“We all want the best for our country, the best for our football. This has to be respected.”
Jose Peseiro took charge of the Super Eagles in May 2022 after Nigeria failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later that year.

I support the idea of handling super eagles to our fellow Nigerian as a coach. Emmanuel Amunike guide the Nigeria under 17 to glory during 2015 fifa under17 world cup. I believe he can do it again. let's have in him.
