Senate President Akpabio and Deputy Speaker Kalu set to boost Super Eagles’ morale in AFCON quarterfinals

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are aiming to secure a spot in the Semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a victory against Angola

Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Speaker Honourable Benjamin Kalu made a notable appearance in Abidjan to witness the Super Eagles’ quarterfinal clash against Angola, Soccernet.ng reports.

Arriving from Nigeria, the duo aimed to uplift the spirits of the Super Eagles in this crucial stage of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The Super Eagles secured their quarterfinal spot by defeating Cameroon in the round of 16.

Personal Assistant to the Senate President, Jackson Udom, told Soccernet, that in a demonstration of solid support, a delegation led by Senate President Akpabio and Deputy Speaker Kalu, including Principal Officers of the House and Senate, and members of sport committees, will attend the match at the iconic Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Côte d’Ivoire.

While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been closely monitoring the team’s progress, other commitments has prevented his physical presence in Abidjan.

However, the attendance of these esteemed figures has shown the collective commitment of the government to rallying behind the Super Eagles.

Nigeria has secured three victories, and five draws against Angola, while the Central African side has won only twice, with the last victory being a 2004 World Cup qualifying clash against Nigeria.
